The is the first book I have read by Anita Hughes. I was attracted to the locations of SF, where I used to live, and Lake Como, where we just returned from. It certainly qualifies as light summer reading, but not sure I would go beyond that. Her continued focus on designer clothes, handbags and all the rest got very tiresome. Perhaps she never attained her apparent dream of writing for Vogue? Her descriptions of locales, towns, villages and scenery are accurate and nicely done; however, the emphasis on clothing and designers added nothing. I will try a second one to see if I like it better. If this is as good as she gets, the I should have given it 2 stars at best.Product details

Nice novel and very good reading during trip to Lake Como
It was the perfect "Lake Read" when I spent the week at Lake Como!
I loved Anita Hughes first two novels, but I think this may be my favorite. LAKE COMO is 24 carat gold escapism--with family jewels and glittering multi-million dollar homes on Lake Como. This novel took me outside of my life and transported me into a fairytale of designer clothes and champagne, stunning natural settings and gourmet food. And yet the characters were also struggling with real life issues of trust, self-discovery and forgiveness. A fabulous read on many levels!
Loved reading about Lake Como and the surrounding cities. We recently visited Italy this past June. Rome, Florence, Cinqueterre, Milan and Tuscany but didn’t get to Lake Como. It’s a beautiful country.
Wow! What a fantastic book! First, please let me start by saying I highly recommend all of the books of Anita Hughes! Why? She takes me to a place, draws me into the story, and keeps me reading all night!
Lake Como? Great read. Great setting. Beautiful cover. Inside the cover, is a lovely story focusing on family dynamics and secrets. However, I also view this book as a love letter to Lake Como, because the description of the area is so detailed and beautiful.
If you love fairy tales, beautiful scenery, fashion and all things Italian, read "Lake Como".You will be transported to one of the most beautiful places in the world as you share a few months in the life of Hallie Elliott, a talented interior designer from San Francisco. The novel covers a period of transition in her life in which she is faced with decisions that will forever change the trajectory of her future.
Picked up this book as we're about to travel to Lake Como and wanted a few holiday reads. It is an easy chick-lit read with glitzy characters and setting, so it's ok if you're not looking for anything with depth The characters are pretty one-dimensional and it is fairly predictable. I became quite irritated by the women being impressed with presents of expensive jewelry and designer clothes from misogynistic men. I found it very odd that the main characters called their parents and grand-parents by first names when it they were meant to come from very traditional families. It was almost as if the author thought the reader would get confused if the characters were called "mother" by one person and "Francesca" by another I couldn't believe anyone would write in the style of the "Dear Diary" entries from Francesca's diary.
